Fort Johnson Estates is one of James Island’s most popular neighborhoods. Located at the end of Fort Johnson Road, traffic is minimal which makes this community feel secluded. However, Downtown Charleston is only about a 5 minute drive (and having just 2 stop lights makes for a nice commute)! Residents can walk to the new kids’ playground at Pinckney Park which is owned and maintained by James Island. Amenities for Fort Johnson Estates include a club house and swimming pool (where you can enjoy watching barges come into Charleston Harbor from this unique vantage point)! Anyone can pay to become a member of the Fort Johnson Estates Civic Club and Swimming Pool. There are no HOA fees for the neighborhood itself, but residents can pay for this optional membership. Kids from all over James Island participate in their Dolphins Swim Team which is considered one of the most active teams in the area.

More on Fort Johnson Estates
Homes in Fort Johnson Estates were built from the 1950's to the late 1980's with the majority being built in the 1960's. Most of these are single story brick ranch style homes with 3-4 bedrooms. Most lot sizes are over 0.4 acres, which is large even for older James Island neighborhoods. You'll find marshfront homes on Trapier Drive, Robert E Lee Boulevard, Preston Road, and Sweetgrass Creek Road (the latter street has some of the only newer homes in the neighborhood).
There are never many Fort Johnson Estates homes for sale at any given time because folks who purchase here tend to stay. This is a highly sought after location on the island because the community feels far removed from the city, yet it's just a 5 minute drive.
Being zoned for Stiles Point (one of James Island's best elementary schools) also adds to the demand for these houses. All island residents attend Camp Road Middle and James Island Charter High School.
