Harbor Woods is one of the more popular neighborhoods on James Island SC with older homes (built on average in the 1970’s and 1980’s). Its grand oak trees, blooming azaleas, and mature vegetation on spacious lots give Harbor Woods a timeless feel. A majority of the houses for sale are brick and range in style from ranch to cottage to Cape Cod to Lowcountry. Buyers tend to like the range of materials used, and no two homes are exactly alike. Most of these older floor plans have 3 to 4 bedrooms and 1,600 to 3,000 square feet. You’ll also find some newer homes built around 2014 by DR Horton located near the back of the community (on Harbor Woods Circle and Harbortowne Road), so these homes tend to have more space and open layouts in comparison.

Living in Harbor Woods
Harbor Woods is located off Fort Johnson Road, and it borders the campus of James Island Charter High School. This proximity is ideal for kids wanting to walk or bike to school, but traffic tends to get busier around the hours that school starts and lets out. Harbor Woods is zoned for Stiles Point Elementary which is one of the best schools on the island. All James Island residents attend Camp Road Middle School.
Located about 10 minutes from Folly Beach and Downtown Charleston, Harbor Woods offers a great location and is centrally located on the island. Within a few minutes’ drive, you can get pizza from Coastal Crust, upscale takeout from Aji Asian Bistro, burgers from Bohemian Bull Tavern, or many other good, local options. The closest grocery store is on Harbor View Road, so everything you need is within a short drive.
Most buyers driving through Harbor Woods love the way these homes look from the street because they are quaint and classic styled homes with beautiful trees and landscaping. Harbor Woods is a great neighborhood to consider if you're searching for older homes which tend to have divided rooms in the living areas (providing more formal floor plans). Buyers who choose Harbor Woods are usually willing to sacrifice a little space, time, and money in order to live in an older, brick home that tells a story and has a lot of character.
