Exterior Improvements

When getting your home in Charleston ready to sell, donrsquo;t forget that there are many things that you can do to increase your homes value. After spending time addressing the inside of the home itself, head outside and apply the same critical eye to the yard and exterior of your home. This is your chance to create a real visual impact with your home. Curb appeal is very important in the sale of a home, as it is more often the curb appeal that interests people in a home in the first place.

nbsp;

There are so many different things that can be done to a yard to spruce up the homes appearance that it is sometimes hard to know where to start. If there is any junk lying about, start with getting rid of it. A clean slate to work on is always a great starting point. Many people choose to highlight the exterior of their home by laying down a new coat of paint. This adds a clean and fresh feeling to a home and helps turn the home into an attractive central point on which to base other improvements. The next logical step is to see to the lawn and gardens. A cut lawn, with neatly trimmed edges makes a home more attractive, and well-tended gardens full of bright and colorful flowers provide a nice finishing touch.

nbsp;

Other things that you can do to improve your homes visual impact are projects such as resurfacing the driveway. This will get rid of unsightly cracks and weeds and make the entranceway to your home more attractive. Itrsquo;s also a good idea to make sure that the fencing around the yard is in good condition (if there is any).

A Good Time to Buy Real Estate in Charleston, SC

Around the summer of last year, the Charleston real estate market (like many others around the country) experienced a drop in home prices.nbsp; Fluctuations are natural in real estate markets and anything else that is economically based.nbsp; Most of us are familiar with the charts that have a wavy line that steadily rises with a pattern of high points (called crests) followed by low points (called troughs).nbsp; The Charleston real estate market had experienced such a rapid increase of home prices in the eight years before that a drop in the market was predicted months before it started to happen.

nbsp;

Most real estate experts agree that this is the lowest point ndash; the trough ndash; of real estate prices.nbsp; Some experts even believe that prices are starting to go up again in many areas.nbsp; The good news for home buyers, though, is that real estate prices now are some of the lowest wersquo;ve seen in years.nbsp; And, they probably wonrsquo;t get much lower.

nbsp;

Many of our clients ask us about the effect the real estate market will have on them selling their homes and buying up (buying a larger or more expensive house).nbsp; Although it will be harder to sell their homes with the current market, itrsquo;s an ideal time to move up.nbsp; Since prices are so low right now, sellers wonrsquo;t get as much money as they would have gotten a year ago for their current homes.nbsp; But, when these sellers go to buy another home, they will pay the lowest amount possible for it.nbsp; This is especially beneficial for people moving up where that percentage of price reduction means saving more money on the more expensive house.

nbsp;

There are still a lot of homes on the real estate market to sell.nbsp; Some Charleston areas have monthsrsquo; worth of inventory in a market that is slowly becoming less flooded.nbsp; Between having a lot of homes to choose from and taking advantage of the low prices, the next couple of months are going to be a good time to buy real estate in Charleston.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;

Charleston Island Life

The islands that surround Charleston are associated with a distinct lifestyle of luxury and relaxation.nbsp; Islands like James Island, Johns Island, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Sullivans Island, Wadmalaw Island, and Daniel Island are home to a number of beautiful homes and resort communities. If you are considering a move to the Charleston area and have always wanted to enjoy waterfront real estate in Charleston or any of its surrounding areas, these islands are worth a look.

nbsp;

Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, and Daniel Island showcase high-class housing with a great variety of recreational options like golf, tennis, and horseback riding. Many of the islands are home to some of the most historic homes and sites in the area, such as Fort Moultrie and the lighthouse on Sullivans Island. Many of these islands homes date back to the early 1900s when the islands were a refuge for affluent members of society and plantation owners.

nbsp;

Owning a home on one of Charlestons nearby islands is a special experience. Depending on the area, island real estate can be more expensive.nbsp; But, buyers are willing to pay more to have the lifestyle associated with island living ndash; expansive water and marsh views, abundant wildlife, constant breezes, peace and quiet, a laid-back feel.nbsp; Also, many home buyers choose island real estate because they know it appreciates at a rapid rate, making it one of the most desirable real estatenbsp;investments in South Carolina.

nbsp;

Many of the islands like Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island have chosen to not focus on large-scale development, and they prefer to keep the number of homes relatively low. The homes on these islands are simply magnificent, ranging from small beach cottages to sprawling estate homes, all featuring the amazing views and oceanfront luxury that the islands are known for.
