While Mount Pleasant is known for its fantastic public schools, wide range of entertainment, and neighborhoods with full amenities, perhaps the only downside to living in this upscale suburb is the traffic. It’s been recently named the 9th fastest growing city in the country, so commuting is an important factor to consider when buying a home. The communities with the closest proximity to Downtown especially (see below, Ravenel Bridge) are some of the most expensive due to the high demand from home buyers. Keep this trade off in mind when comparing neighborhoods because generally the best locations tend to have the highest prices per square foot. However, if a shorter commute leads to a better quality of life, more time spent with family, and less money spent on gas the trade off might well be worth it!

Commuting via Ravenel Bridge

As the closest neighborhoods to Downtown Charleston, these hot spots offer the best of both worlds – a surburban lifestyle located just minutes from the city.

Old Village: Mount Pleasant’s oldest community offers a quaint commercial district and 200+ year old homes. Some newer construction homes have also been built to blend with the older feel of this harbor front neighborhood.

I'On: This prestigious community offers fantastic amenities (especially for tennis lovers) and was designed to resemble the streets of Downtown Charleston. It also offers its own commercial area which is convenient for walking to get dinner or drinks with friends.

Wakendaw Lakes: Located a little over 10 minutes from the Ravenel Bridge, this home offers the best of both worlds since it's also convenient to Interstate 526. It's drastically more affordable than I'On or Old Village, and its lakefront views are a great way to unwind after the work day!

If your job takes you to North Charleston or West Ashley, it's usually faster to use I-526. These neighborhoods are also conveniently located near Belle Hall Shopping Center on Longpoint Road where you'll find plenty of shopping and restaurants.

Belle Hall: Adjacent to I-526, the community is also within walking/biking distance to Belle Hall Elementary School.

Grassy Creek: Home buyers tend to like the Low Country styles and mature landscaping (something that is hard to find with newer homes).

Pinckney Place: This small neighborhood sees few homes for sale each year, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on due to location and its Low Country homes!

Hobcaw Creek Plantation: This is also a great option for buyers wanting marshfront real estate and private docks.

Longpoint: Although this one is not as close as the four listed above, it's a straight drive down Longpoint Road to get to the Interstate. This happens to be one of Mount Pleasant's more affordable neighborhoods, also.
