The islands that surround Charleston are associated with a distinct lifestyle of luxury and relaxation.  Islands like James Island, Johns Island, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Sullivan's Island, Wadmalaw Island, and Daniel Island are home to a number of beautiful homes and resort communities. If you are considering a move to the Charleston area and have always wanted to enjoy waterfront real estate in Charleston or any of its surrounding areas, these islands are worth a look.

Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, and Daniel Island showcase high-class housing with a great variety of recreational options like golf, tennis, and horseback riding. Many of the islands are home to some of the most historic homes and sites in the area, such as Fort Moultrie and the lighthouse on Sullivan's Island. Many of these island's homes date back to the early 1900's when the islands were a refuge for affluent members of society and plantation owners.

Owning a home on one of Charleston's nearby islands is a special experience. Depending on the area, island real estate can be more expensive.  But, buyers are willing to pay more to have the lifestyle associated with island living – expansive water and marsh views, abundant wildlife, constant breezes, peace and quiet, a laid-back feel.  Also, many home buyers choose island real estate because they know it appreciates at a rapid rate, making it one of the most desirable real estate investments in South Carolina.

Many of the islands like Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island have chosen to not focus on large-scale development, and they prefer to keep the number of homes relatively low. The homes on these islands are simply magnificent, ranging from small beach cottages to sprawling estate homes, all featuring the amazing views and oceanfront luxury that the islands are known for.
