The Old Village of Mt. Pleasant is home to some of the best schools in South Carolina. Ranked the second best in the state, homes in Old Village are in high demand because of the top-notch educational opportunities offered here. Three schools can be found in Old Village: Mt. Pleasant Academy, Moultrie Middle School and Wando High School.

Mount Pleasant Academy

Mount Pleasant Academy has had the distinct honor of being awarded a National Blue Ribbon of Excellence for the high performance of its students. Celebrating more than 200 years, the school is the oldest in South Carolina. Some of the many amenities the school offers are acoustic panel-lined walls in the music room, a special room for volunteers and PTA to meet and an art room with an outdoor patio, sinks and a kiln area.

Moultrie Middle School

Moultrie Middle School was ranked the top school in all of South Carolina. Opened in 2009, the school features classrooms with Smart Boards and a strong fine arts department. The school’s music rooms can accommodate a 250-person chorus, while the band room boasts 18-foot high ceilings and acoustic paneling on the ceilings and walls.

Students who attend the middle school are separated into three color-coded wings with their own staircases, classrooms and conference rooms. Moultrie is known for its green features, which include the use of natural light. Its media center features large windows with a balcony and outdoor classrooms allow teachers to give lessons outdoors. This area is also used to host farmer’s markets throughout the year. The school’s art room and cafeteria also feature outdoor areas.

Wando High School

Wando High School (pictured) is known for its top-notch academic performance and athletic achievements. The high school campus in Mount Pleasant is huge and serves students in grades 9-12. More than 250 courses are offered here and more than 39% of the students here are considered gifted and talented. Nearly 98% of students will go on to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities. On average, faculty have at least 14 years of educational experience with 67% holding a masters or other advanced degree. Wando boasts a 23:1 student to teacher ratio.

The Old Village of Mt. Pleasant offers a top-quality educational experience at its three public schools. With some of the best schools in South Carolina, it’s no surprise that home buyers flock to this quaint part of town to settle down.
