Westfield Place has new homes built in the Charleston low country style with large front porches, stylish shutters, and classic colors. Some are shot gun designs, which have the door that appears to be the front door, but it actually just opens up to the side porch. This was a very popular way to build homes back in the late 1700’s to early 1900’s when homes were too close together in the city to have the front porch face the street (the faux front door enabled owners to greet guests properly). Westfield Place homes have hardy plank siding, which is perfect for weather conditions in the south where real wood planks would swell, rot, and attract termites. Hardy plank (also called cement plank) looks like wood, and the homeowners can paint it whatever color they want, making it look more like a renovated 1800’s home from the streets of downtown Charleston.
Home prices for Westfield Place begin the high $300's and go up to $450K or so. Most floor plans have 4 bedrooms and at least 3 baths, range from 2,400 square feet to 2,800 square feet, have 2 stories, and were built in 2006 and 2007. The average lot size is smaller, only about 0.14 to 0.22 acres. The neighborhood consists of only two streets, Sabrina Circle and Hepburn Street. Westfield is located on the corner of Secessionville Road and Fort Johnson Road on James Island. Folly Beach is only a 5 minute drive, and it takes about 10 minutes to drive downtown without ever having to hit a stop light. It is a short bike ride to Gold’s Gym, Food Lion, a couple restaurants, shops, bars, and the library. You could ride your bike to the beach in about 30 minutes, since there are sidewalks/bike lanes most of the way. It is in one of the highest ranking school districts on James Island: Harborview Elementary, James Island Middle, and James Island Charter High School. People who purchase a home in Westfield Place enjoy its convenient location, and want a very new home, hardy plank siding, an upgraded interior, and a great school system.
