Grimball Gates is one of only a handful of gated communities on Johns Island. Amenities include a dock on the Intracoastal Waterway/Stono River with 2 floaters (pictured right), boat storage, and over 2 miles of walking trails (views from the trail are pictured below). Grimball Gates is a large neighborhood made up of approximately 90 acres, so lot sizes are quite spacious for newer construction (ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 acre). Most of these houses were built from 2002 to 2011, so you'll see a range of designs. However, the homes are known for being well upgraded with hardy plank siding, 9 foot (or higher) ceilings, custom cabinetry, and high end appliances.
Floor plans range from 3 to 5 bedrooms with square footage running 2,500 to 4,000. Many of these homes overlook community ponds, the surrounding marshes, or the Stono River. Located off Chisolm Road, Grimball Gates is about a 25 minute drive from downtown and 30 minutes from Folly Beach. A 5-10 minute drive will take you to some of the local favorite restaurants off Maybank Highway such as Wild Olive, Fat Hen, and Maria's Mexican Grill.
One of the closest private schools is Porter Gaud, which is about 13 miles from the community. The zoned public schools are Angel Oak Elementary, Haut Gap Middle, and St. Johns High.
