The Summerville Historic District offers the widest range of home designs in the area. No other neighborhood of Dorchester County has homes that are as timeless and beautifully restored as Summerville’s Historic District. Most of the houses were built between 1900 and 1950. However, you'll find occasional homes come up for sale that date back to the 1830’s.
These historic homes range from farmhouse styles to Victorian to bungalow to Cape Cod to Lowcountry styles. Interspersed with these classic homes you’ll also find brick ranches built in the 1970’s and 1980’s. There are also some newer construction homes that have been tastefully incorporated into this section.
Homes in the Historic District of Summerville range in price from about $450K to over $1 million. Houses priced lower than this sometimes come onto the market, but usually these require more work and out of pocket expense than buyers are willing to make.
Buyers who choose the Historic District usually want to be within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in downtown Summerville. Also, they usually want a home that’s not in a cookie cutter neighborhood and is zoned for Dorchester 2 public schools. (The school zoning for this community is Summerville Elementary, Alston Middle, and Summerville High.)
