House prices in West Ashley vary drastically according to location. The homes that are closer to Downtown Charleston fetch the highest prices, with homes getting more affordable as you get further from the city. West Ashley real estate is divided into two sections. The more expensive section is inside Interstate 526, and these homes are anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes from Downtown. Buyers tend to like these brick exteriors and relatively large lots, and some overlook the Ashley River. Homes in this older section of West Ashley are in high demand, and you'll find many that have been renovated.

If you're willing to live further out, you'll be able to get more house for the money outside of Interstate 526. Most of these neighborhoods are newer and have amenities such as pools and tennis courts. These houses are anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes from Downtown. Ashley Harbor is an ideal community for boaters. With a boat ramp and dock on Bull Creek leading to the Ashley River, the neighborhood offers hard to find amenities in West Ashley (there's also tennis and a gated entrance).

Avondale has become one of West Ashley's trendiest neighborhoods because it's within walking distance to some of the best restaurants and bars in the area.

Bolton's Landing appeals to buyers wanting less expensive newer homes. With a pool, clubhouse, and good walking trails, it also offers the most popular amenities among buyers.

Byrnes Downs is one of the closest West Ashley neighborhoods to Downtown Charleston (5 minutes) and Folly Beach (15 minutes). Known for its 1940’s and 1950’s brick cottages, Byrnes Downs offers a charm and timeless style that are enormously popular among home buyers.

Carolina Bay is a new construction community with upscale amenities such as 2 swimming pools, a covered pavilion with an outdoor fireplace, a children’s playground, and even a dog park! Buyers tend to love the walking trails here, too.

The Crescent features high end single family homes built mostly from the 1950’s to 1970’s. Many of these have views of the marsh and the Intracoastal Waterway. Located at the corner of Folly Road and Albemarle Road, The Crescent is within walking distance to the private Porter Gaud School.

Edgewater Park appeals to buyers wanting either an inexpensive interior lot home with neighborhood boating access, or an affordable waterfront home with its own dock. Bordering the community is Coburg Creek (leads to Intracoastal Waterway).

Grand Oaks Plantation has some of the most affordable houses in West Ashley. You’ll find basic amenities such as a pool and play park, and for more options check out the Bee’s Ferry Recreation Center which is also conveniently located within Grand Oaks.

Hunt Club often appeals to buyers looking for newer homes with more of a custom look. Amenities include a pool and kids' play park. Hunt Club, Schieveling Plantation, and Carolina Bay are some of the most upscale newer neighborhoods in West Ashley.

Magnolia Bluff offers newer homes built by Mungo in West Ashley. The neighborhood gets its name from the high bluff that overlooks the Ashley River, and residents can enjoy the long dock that leads through the scenic marshes.

Moreland is located off St. Andrews Boulevard just a few minutes from peninsular Charleston. Some of these single family homes overlook the Ashley River and have great views of the marsh and even downtown Charleston.

Poplar Grove is an equestrian community located on the outskirts of West Ashley where it meets the neighboring town of Ravenel. For buyers wanting privacy and more seclusion, this subdivision offers a zero entry pool, 2 club houses, dock, boat landing, and full equestrian facilities (an amenity that's hard to find near Charleston).

Providence Commons offers convenient access to Interstate 526 since it’s located off Glenn McConnell Parkway. This appeals to buyers looking for a smaller neighborhood with low annual costs (no amenities).

Sandhurst is convenient to I-26, and North Charleston is just across the Cosgrove Bridge. Sandhurst is known for its brick, 1960’s and ‘70’s ranches and also the expansive views of the marsh and Ashley River making up the northern boundary of West Ashley.

Schieveling Plantation is distinguished by its upscale newer homes that have been built in a Low Country setting. Large live oak trees wind throughout the neighborhood, and its plantation style clubhouse adds to the Southern feel of the community. Additional amenities include a Junior Olympic swimming pool and a playground.

Shadowmoss Plantation is West Ashley’s only golf community, and it offers some of the most affordable homes overlooking a golf course in all of Charleston County. In addition to the public course, amenities include a fitness center, tennis courts, and two swimming pools (a Junior Olympic size plus a toddler pool).

Windermere is located where Folly Road meets Hwy 17 in West Ashley. This is a highly sought after neighborhood because of the prime location and the charming brick 1940’s and ‘50’s houses. One of the biggest appeals for its walkability to the West Ashley Greenway, the library, and South Windermere Center with shops and restaurants.

Village Green is one of the best neighborhoods in West Ashley for buying affordable homes. The large scale of the community means that you can enjoy numerous walking paths, green spaces, ponds, and wildlife. There's also a swimming pool and play park.
