Wescott Plantation boasts a 27 hole golf course that is open to the public. The neighborhood itself is not responsible for maintaining the golf course, and joining the golf club is optional for Wescott residents. Home buyers like that you only pay for the golf privileges if you want them. The homes backing up to the golf course tend to be the most desirable (even for non-golfers) for the nice green space and views they provide. There is not a main pool at Wescott. Some subsections like The Farm have a pool, so let us know if you want to narrow your search to just these. This very active club house serves meals and has events like trivia night. Home buyers choose Wescott to get the benefits of the Dorchester 2 School District (which so many buyers want) combined with a great location. This is one of the closest Summerville neighborhoods to Downtown Charleston and the beaches, and just outside the neighborhood you’ll find some good shopping and restaurant options. Wescott is also close to the airport which is ideal for Boeing employees. Plus, commuters appreciate the three community entrances off Parlor Road (by Walmart), Dorchester Road, and Patriots Boulevard.
Wescott Plantation is one of the largest and most popular neighborhoods in Summerville SC, and you'll find both houses and townhouses. Wescott Plantation is perhaps the most affordable golf community to live in the entire tri-county Charleston area. (Summerville has 2 other golf communities: Legend Oaks Plantation and Pine Forest Country Club.) And because the Wescott golf course has 27 holes, there's usually a good selection of homes for sale that overlook the course at any given time. Other amenities include a club house with a bar and grill (pictured below).
Wescott Plantation is ideal for home buyers wanting an affordable home in a large subdivision with a good location. Because of the wide selection of homes and prices, Wescott appeals to first-time buyers looking for a starter home, retirees wanting a 1 story home with low maintenance, and also families needing 4 to 5 bedrooms with 3,000+ square feet. No other community in Summerville meets such a wide range of needs as Wescott.
Another big selling point for the community is the Dorchester School District 2 zoning which is so sought after. Most of the Wescott Plantation homes for sale are designated for Fort Dorchester Elementary, Oakbrook Middle, and Fort Dorchester High School. You'll notice that some addresses are zoned for Joseph Pye Elementary and River Oaks Middle, so we recommend contacting the district directly to confirm if you prefer one set of schools over the other.
Wescott Plantation also has assisted living apartments in a designated section which is helpful for home owners who would like the convenience of having their parents within the neighborhood while also getting the care they need. This close proximity is difficult to find in our market where we're seeing more multi-generational moves to Charleston!
