Kiawah River Estates boasts the Oak Point Golf Course which is located within the neighborhood but is owned by Kiawah Island Resort. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston and was opened in 1989. Amenities include a club house, tennis, swimming pool, and dock in addition to being the only golfing community on Johns Island. Kiawah River Estates was called Hope Plantation when it was first developed in the early 1990s. However, its association with the Resort, its location directly south (across the marsh) from Kiawah, and its history as a former indigo plantation have resulted in changing names in recent years.
Located on the far side of Johns Island, Kiawah River Estates is known for its seclusion and privacy. Although it’s about a 35 minute drive from Downtown Charleston, residents have plenty of options for entertainment located within 10 minutes such as Freshfields Village, Bohicket Marina, the public Beachwalker Park on Kiawah, and Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. You’ll find fantastic shopping and restaurant options at Freshfields Village, and local Johns Island favorites such as Wild Olive are a slightly longer drive to get back to Maybank Highway. Kiawah River Estates has condos in its Indigo Hall subsection but is otherwise made up of single family houses.
