Charleston National offers the most affordable homes in a Mt. Pleasant golf community. Here, you’ll find a mix of condos, townhouses, and single family homes. If you’re looking for a low maintenance home with full amenities (whether for retirement or to use as a vacation home), condos in The Retreat and The Legacy sections are certainly worth considering. The most affordable single family homes are located in The Orchard, Westchester, and The Glen subsections. Egret’s Pointe, The Estates, Abbotts Glen, The Gallery, and Victory Pointe tend to be more expensive, but many offer good waterfront and golf views. Waterfront options in Charleston National range from homes located on a pond to tidal marsh to deep water homes with private docks on the Copahee Sound.
The main drawback for Charleston National is that it’s one of the furthest Mount Pleasant communities from Downtown Charleston (30 minutes’ drive) and the beaches (15-20 minutes). However, this proximity is largely what makes it affordable. HOA fees for Charleston National are $564/year plus a $46/month fee for the social membership which includes tennis and pool access. Golf club membership is separate, so contact us for prices on their current golf packages.

Charleston National Membership and Golf Course
Charleston National is a large golfing neighborhood located off Highway 17N, less than 5 minutes past the intersection of Hwy 41 and Hwy 17 on the right hand side. There are two entrances to the community. Inside the first entrance, you will find condos, the amenity center, and several single family home sections. There are townhomes in the back, as well. Most of the single family homes were built between the early 1990's and 2007.
The Charleston National Golf Course is a par 72 course designed by Rees Jones. It opened in 1989, and the USGA has rated it 74.5. The most notable stretches of this golf course offer sweeping views of the Copahee Sound and Intracoastal Waterway.
Folks looking for an open single story floor plan or a quieter neighborhood also tend to enjoy Charleston National. The biggest drawback to this neighborhood is its location. Since it is well past Hwy 41, buyers often think that it is too far out. Charleston National is around 30 minutes from Downtown Charleston and 15-20 minutes to the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island beaches. However, the public golf course, club house, tennis courts, pool, fitness area, and children's play park more than make up for the drive. (Note that if you are interested in becoming a member of the golf club, there are golf packages available for purchase that are separate from the HOA fees we listed above).
The most sought after homes in Charleston National have pond views, marsh views, golf course views, or back up to a wooded buffer. The zoned public schools are highly ranked and are a quick drive outside of the community (Charles Pinckney Elementary, Cario Middle, and Wando High School). Across the highway is Roper Hospital, and inside Park West is the Mount Pleasant Recreation Center, which has an indoor pool. Also, you can enjoy playing golf on Dunes West or Rivertowne Country Club's courses by just driving 5 minutes.
