Darrell Creek is ideal for Mt. Pleasant, SC home buyers looking for larger, wooded lots with mature trees and a private feel. Its location further out in Mt. Pleasant makes the community feel very secluded from the rest of the suburb. For some buyers, this privacy is exactly what they’re looking for. Plus, the turn off for Darrell Creek Trail (off Hwy 17) is just past Wando High School, making it walkable for students and teachers. Also, the $450/year HOA fee is relatively affordable considering that it includes access to the pool and dock. If you’re looking for a marshfront home, be sure to check out Coastal Crab Road, Holmgren Street, Channel View Court, Station Point Court, and parts of Commonwealth for the best views.
Some buyers commuting via the Ravenel Bridge or I-526 find Darrell Creek too far out. However, if you’re looking for a newer home (built since 2000) or brand new construction with a lot size of 0.4 or larger, you’ll find only one other consistent option (Dunes West) mixed with occasional others. New construction options include building on your own lot with an HOA-approved plan or choosing one of the proposed or under construction listings from a builder such as Crescent.

Darrell Creek in Mount Pleasant, SC
Darrell Creek is a medium sized community made up of 15 streets. It features only single family homes in a private country setting with larger than average lots. Lot sizes range from about ½ an acre to a full acre. Buyers typically love this neighborhood because it has a lot of elbow room between neighbors, and most of the homes are newer. The majority of houses were built between 1999 to the present. On average, the homes are 2,000 to 5,000 square feet, at least 4 bedrooms, and 2.5 baths. There are still several lots and land/home packages for sale, or you can purchase a pre-owned home that is move-in ready. The exteriors are mostly hardy plank (cement plank siding). The marshfront and tidal creek homes and vacant lots offer great water views. The HOA (Homeowners' Association) dues are approximately $450 per year. The community has a pool (pictured) and dock, which are included in the annual HOA dues.
Some buyers feel that Darrell Creek is too far out in Mt. Pleasant. It's about 35 minutes to downtown Charleston and 15 minutes to Isle of Palms (the closest beach). Very close by on Hwy 17 is the new Roper Mt. Pleasant Hospital, Wando High School, Francis Marion National Forest, 3 public golf courses, the Towne Center outdoor mall and movie theater, and several great restaurants. Darrell Creek is zoned for Laurel Hill Primary, Charles Pinckney Elementary, Cario Middle, and Wando High School. Make sure to verify school districts before purchasing a home if schools are a high priority, as zoning changes from time to time (particularly for the elementary school). The pros of Darrell Creek are that it features nice new homes and vacant lots to build with spacious yards, good options for marsh or water views, and a community pool and dock. This combination is rare in Mount Pleasant, so often buyers decide that more land is worth the extra 7 minutes or so to get to downtown or the beach.
