Eastwood Homes for Sale on James Island

eastwood on the charleston harbor

Eastwood is an established neighborhood with mostly older homes built from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. Because there were so many different builders over the course of several decades, Eastwood has a range of various home styles. You will see mostly brick or wood siding homes, both 1 and 2 story floor plans, 3-5 bedrooms, and at least 2 full baths. There are still a few vacant lots to be built on. Home prices start around the high $300’s and go up to $2 million or so for homes on the Charleston Harbor. The vegetation is very mature, and the ¼ to ½ acre lots are larger than average for James Island. Eastwood is one of only a handful of James Island neighborhoods overlooking the Charleston Harbor.

While one side of the community offers unobstructed views of downtown Charleston, another side backs up to May Forest Convent on James Island. So the neighborhood has a unique feeling of being so close and yet so tucked away from Charleston. The large oak trees and quiet feel of the community also add to the high demand from home buyers. There are walking trails and a small community park on the harbor which has a small beach at low tide. The James Island Yacht Club is a shabby club on the Charleston Harbor where folks can leave their boats on a trailer, so launching is more simplified. Members don’t have to worry about whether the tide is right or if there is a line at the public boat ramp. There is also a restaurant inside the club. Membership fees are completely separate from the neighborhood. (There are no HOA dues in Eastwood, which is typical for older subdivisions on James Island.)

Just outside of the neighborhood is a convenience store and a local favorite pizza place, Cibo’s. Folks who decide to purchase a home in Eastwood are usually looking for a home with established trees, a larger yard, higher ranking schools, and do not mind renovating or adding personal touches to their new place. They also enjoy the convenience of downtown being only 5 minutes away, and the beach being a short 10 minute drive.
