Fort Johnson Estates is a popular neighborhood on James Island and is made up of older single family homes. This neighborhood is located at the end of Fort Johnson Road, so traffic is minimal making it feel secluded, and like a great little secret. The homes were built from the 1950’s to the late 1980’s, but mostly you will find homes built in the mid 1960’s. You will find that the majority of these homes are single story brick ranch-style homes with 3-4 bedrooms and at least 1 full bathroom. Most of the lots are over 0.4 acres, which is larger than average for James Island, even in older neighborhoods. Home prices range from the low $200's to the $500's, and some of these are marshfront homes.
Fort Johnson Estates is about 10 minutes away from downtown Charleston and about 15 minutes away from Folly Beach. Amenities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, and club house. Anyone can pay to become a member of the Fort Johnson Estates club. There are no HOA fees for the neighborhood itself, but you will pay yearly to become a member of the Fort Johnson Civic Association which houses the community pool and other amenities. Many children on James Island participate on the swim team.
There are never many homes listed for sale in this neighborhood at any given time because folks who purchase here tend to stay for a long time. They enjoy the peace and quiet, the one story floor plans, spacious yards, and close proximity to downtown and the beach.
