Planters’ Pointe is located within the main Rivertowne entrance. However, it is a community unto itself with its own amenities. Planter’s Pointe is made up of 6 subsections, and the most affordable of these are Smokerise, Cotton Creek, and Thornwood. You’ll find mid priced homes and larger lots (quarter acre) in High Marsh and Saltwood. The nicest section of Planters’ Pointe is Indigo Chase where the homes boast lots of upgrades, cement plank siding (as opposed to vinyl exteriors mostly in the other sections), and newer construction since they were built after 2006. Some of these houses have half acre lots and marsh views. Indigo Chase owners also have the option of joining Rivertowne Country Club amenities.

Home buyers tend to like the medium size of Planters’ Pointe, especially since the surrounding neighborhoods are much larger. Also, the walking trails connect to the adjacent Rivertowne paths, offering lots of outdoor exercise space for a community this size. The biggest drawback to Planter’s Pointe is that it’s further out in Mount Pleasant. Commute traffic coming from Hwy 17 to the turnoff at Hwy 41 gets quite congested. Some buyers choose to live closer to Downtown or I-526 with the tradeoff of a smaller home.

Planter's Pointe Clubhouse and Other Amenities

Planter's Pointe subdivision was established in 1997, and it's a little more dispersed than some of the other neighborhoods in Mt. Pleasant. It has six different subsections, all of which pay approximately $675 per year to the Homeowners' Association (HOA). The main section is located off Highway 41 on the left, just past the light at Dunes West and Rivertowne. The main section has 3 different subsections within its boundaries. Starting from the least expensive to most expensive, they are Cotton Creek, Smokerise, and Thornwood. Home sizes range from about 1,200 square feet to almost 4,000 square feet. The exterior of the homes are vinyl, and the interiors are anywhere from basic in the less expensive section to very upgraded in the Thornwood subsection. Lot sizes vary from .15 acres to .25 acres, and there are both wooded and pond lots available. Also, the amenities are conveniently located by the entrance. You'll find an Olympic size pool, clubhouse, tennis courts, basketball hoops, walking trails, and a children's play park. The walking trails include a trail that runs from this main section to another section inside Rivertowne. There are two subsections at Planters Pointe Inside Rivertowne called Saltwood and High Marsh. Combined there are only 5 roads, and lot sizes are about .25 acres. Some of the homes in these two subsections have views of the marsh and tidal creeks.

Indigo Chase is a 3 street subsection of Planters Pointe located just inside the entrance to Rivertowne Country Club on the right. These homes are of higher quality and price, have 3 to 5 bedrooms, 2.5 to 4.5 baths, and are built 2006 through the present. The exterior of these homes are mostly hardy plank (cement plank), and the interiors are beautifully upgraded with granite counters, beautiful cabinetry, large tasteful moldings, and site finished wood flooring. Some lots are very large for Mt. Pleasant with close to a half an acre, and many overlook the marsh. Owners have the option of joining the Rivertowne Country Club amenities, as well, if they live in Indigo Chase.

Laurel Hill Primary, Cario Middle, and Wando High are the schools that Planters Pointe is zoned for, although it is a good idea to verify with the school since boundaries change. Just past the Rivtertowne light is a Harris Teeter grocery store, and Mount Pleasant Towne Center and several other shopping centers are within a 5-10 minute drive. Downtown is 30 minutes away, and the beach is a 15 minute drive. The families who want to live in this neighborhood generally love the medium size of the community, the affordability combined with nice amenities, or they want a newer home with a marsh front view and a large lot in this price range. Perhaps the biggest downside to living in Planters Pointe is being located off Highway 41 because it tends to get congested during rush hour.
